Our Alaska trip aboard Royal Caribbean
… was nothing short of unforgettable! After exploring the vibrant city of Seattle, we set sail —Mike and I, our son Michael, and our two granddaughters, Layla and Olena—ready to explore the breathtaking wonders of the Last Frontier. From our peaceful days at sea to the incredible landscapes of Sitka, the rich history of Skagway, and the wild beauty of Juneau, every stop was magical. We were in awe of Alaska’s towering glaciers, abundant wildlife, and the incredible midnight sun that made each day feel endless. We wrapped up our journey in the charming city of Victoria, BC (who knew Victoria was so amazing - I seriously need a weekend-getaway there!). But what truly made this trip extraordinary wasn’t just the scenery—it was the shared moments, and the joy of being together in one of the world’s most beautiful places.
Seattle, WA
Seattle, Washington is a vibrant city nestled between Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains, known for its iconic Space Needle, fresh seafood, rich coffee culture, and stunning waterfront views. It’s the perfect blend of natural beauty and urban charm.
On board we go… with a little anticipation!
First Full Day at Sea
Aboard Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas, our day at sea was packed with fun, finding ducks 🐥 and unforgettable memories. We explored the ship from bow to stern, checking out all the delicious food, endless rounds of air hockey—catching live shows, joining in on trivia, and browsing the shops. Layla and Olena couldn’t get enough of their favorite drink, Sprite! We all soaked in the joy of simply being together. Every moment was filled with excitement and connection as we cruised closer to the majestic beauty of Alaska.
We have arrived!
After a full day at sea and sailing through the night, we finally arrived in Alaska! The morning sunrise with the mountains and sea in soft golden light, instantly revealing the untouched beauty of God’s creation. Towering peaks, shimmering waters, and endless skies welcomed us with a majesty that took our breath away. It was a soul-stirring moment that marked the beginning of our Alaskan adventure.
Sitka, Alaska
Our day in Sitka was filled with charm and a lot of wind as we docked at the breezy port surrounded by stunning scenery. We walked through the local shops looking for some unique Alaskan keepsakes, then made our way to the Fortress of the Bear—an incredible rescue sanctuary where we got up close with bears in a natural setting. Of course, no stop would be complete without a little local flavor, so Mike and I sampled “duck farts”—a famous Alaskan layered shot that gave us a good laugh and a few videos—and we warmed up with a hearty bowl of rich, creamy chowder that hit the spot. Sitka gave us the perfect mix of culture, wildlife, and delicious memories.
Duck Fart Shot:
1 oz Kahlua Coffee Liqueur / 1 oz Baileys Irish Cream / 1 oz Jameson Whisky
Skagway, Alaska
Welcomed us with its old-time charm and breathtaking mountain views, offering a perfect mix of adventure and small-town warmth. We kicked off our day strolling the wooden sidewalks of downtown Skagway, soaking in the town’s gold rush history and friendly vibe. We stopped for the most delicious halibut fish and chips at Skagway Brewing Company—fresh, flaky, and full of flavor (and beer flights). We wrapped up the day with the unforgettable Dog Sled and Mushers Camp Experience, where we met energetic Alaskan huskies, learned about the Iditarod, and even got to ride a wheeled sled through the forest—an absolute highlight! Skagway left us full of smiles and lasting memories!
Alaskan huskies
The Alaskan huskies aren’t just adorable, they’re elite athlete sled dogs in rigorous summer training. The huskies are owned by seasoned mushers—many who've raced the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. We cuddled playful puppies as part of their early socialization and a heartwarming chance to connect with the future stars of the racing world.
Bred for endurance and speed, the dogs stay in peak condition even without snow.
Endicott Arms
Endicott Arm was nothing short of breathtaking—a moment of pure awe and wonder. We woke up at 4am, bundled in our warm jammies and blankets, eager to claim the perfect viewing spot as we approached the fjord around 5am. The stillness of the morning, the crisp air, and the anticipation made it all the more magical. As the towering glaciers and cascading waterfalls came into view, our captain amazed us by slowly turning the HUGE ship in a complete circle, giving everyone onboard a front-row seat to nature’s masterpiece. Adding to the unforgettable experience, the crew served hot chocolate—complete with a splash of Baileys for those ready to indulge before sunrise. It was a peaceful, powerful reminder of just how incredible our world can be.
Dawes Glacier
A stunning fjord a testament to both the power of nature and the artistry of God’s creation. Home to the majestic Dawes Glacier at its head. As you sail through its narrow passageways surrounded by snow-capped peaks and cascading waterfalls, it’s impossible not to feel humbled by the beauty and history that surrounds you—a true reminder of the divine hand in nature’s design.
Juneau, Alaska
The state capital—offers a perfect blend of Gold Rush heritage and modern charm. Among its most famous foodie stops is Tracy’s King Crab Shack, right on the cruise ship docks. Just a short stroll away lies Mayor Bill Overstreet Park—dubbed “Whale Park”—where the life-size bronze humpback sculpture “Tahku,” dramatically breaches above a bubbling fountain. Juneau’s floatplane scene is a reminder of Alaska’s pioneering spirit and unparalleled wilderness artistry.
Tracy’s King Crab Shack
Known for serving succulent Alaskan king crab legs, crab cakes and creamy bisque. Tracy’s has won praise from Food & Wine, Condé Nast Traveler, and Top Chef.
Final Full Day at Sea
Our final day at sea was the perfect blend of relaxation, fun, and a few last adventures aboard the Anthem of the Seas. We spent the day soaking in the sunshine by the pool, catching more lively shows, testing our knowledge at trivia, trying out the Bionic Bar for a Shirly Temple and picking up a few last souvenirs in the ship’s shops. Dinner at Izumi was a highlight—delicious sushi, vibrant atmosphere, and a fun way to wrap up our journey. The best part? Watching Layla’s face light up when she got her favorite dessert: mochi ice cream, a sweet treat that made the evening even more special.
Bionic Bar
Our last Port…
We made our graceful evening arrival into Victoria, BC, while Layla and Olena were perfectly content, relaxing and chillin' in the hot tub, soaking up the peaceful vibes after a week full of adventure.
Victoria, BC
Timeless charm and rich history from the moment we stepped onto its waterfront wharf. The iconic Inner Harbour with vibrant water taxis— “pickle boats” gliding past and colourful houseboats and restaurants at Fisherman’s Wharf. We hopped aboard one of these fun float taxis, zipping across the harbour toward the elegant Fairmont Empress Hotel—a Chateauesque marvel built by the Canadian Pacific Railway between 1904 and 1908, and a cherished landmark. Dinner on the glimmering water, felt like a scene from a postcard. As twilight began to show, we strolled back along the causeway and harbour path, soaking in Victoria’s architecture, and the beauty of this enchanting city—an idyllic final evening before we returned to our ship for our overnight back to Seattle
Victoria, BC - Canada
Arriving in Victoria, BC was a special moment, knowing it was Layla and Olena’s very first time leaving the country. Sun bright and the clear blue sky, stepping off the ship and onto Canadian soil felt exciting and new.
